OK kids, we've got another "Do it for the children" Wellstonian moment from Prairie Pravda. This time for the children of "undocumented" immigrants. Meaning the children of criminals. The euphemistic acronym? DREAM (Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors). The reasoning for special privileges for the offspring of criminals? They're innocent children. They have the seed of promise. All touchy feely. If you're against the DREAM, the Marxists at Prairie Pravda hang the term "dream slayer" on us.
Anything to fear from the DREAM? Not according to the enlightened social engineers (meaning they're manipulators). quote "Those who fear that the DREAM Act would make Minnesota a magnet for illegal immigrants should know that this state would not stand alone." And the reason for our fears to be allayed? Well, my friend, because there are nine other states that will also become criminal nesting grounds.My, my. There now. Don't you feel safer?
So, I'm a Dream slayer uh? And the Marxists at Prairie Pravda are coddlers of criminals and law breakers, killers of the real American Dream, the Constitution, the rule of law, granters of government dictated privileges for any number of self-described victims that legal American citizens are expected to pay for (in more ways than one).

Expanded government via Republicans part II
The WSJ doesn't quite have the timing right, but certainly the sentiment that I expressed below: The Republicans can not stop themselves. They have become mislabeled Democrats and extreme lefties.

The problem with donuts is that there's too many calories in them
Seems that the rant again from Minneapolis is that there are too many guns on the street:
"The Rev. Ian Bethel, co-chairman of the Police-Community Relations Council, said the council plans to make sure the department does a thorough investigation of the crash. But he also made a plea for the community to work to get guns off the street."
Why not get the thugs, punks and bangers who use guns off the street instead. The one banger who was killed in this accident will not be involveed in any more drive by shootings I'd wager. Nor will he go to any movies playing near Block E with a firearm and shoot an innocent bystander. And he won't be shooting up any neighborhoods where innocent little girls are doing their homework. No matter how many firearms are on the street, this banger won't be using any. Now, if all bangers were off the street...do the math.

There's bad math, and economics, then there's scary math
I came across this article on what the real deficit is this year (notice that Congress uses an accounting method that it doesn't allow me to use as an independent business owner).Notice that the real defict is over twice what's reported. At the bottom of the article there is bad math/economics where Broder says that if we keep spending at the same level and keep the tax cuts and make them permanent, well, then we'd be in real trouble. Uh, no. Not at all. Ever.
As a friend of mine said, and I agree a deficit is never a revenue or tax problem. It always has been and always will be a spending problem. Period. End of story. Go on to the next book. Reagan's tax cuts brought in a 100% increase in revenue. The problem with the deficits then was that the Democratic Congress spent all the new revenue, then even more. And it's never a bad idea that people keep the money and more of the money they worked for. Thank you Karl Marx and your heathen spawn, you scum sucking servants of satan.
But what I shuddered at was that the actual deficit of $760,000,000,000 this year comes out to be a debt figure of $156,000 for each every LEGAL man, woman and child in America. That means that the unfunded Social Security and Medicare liabilities comes out to be $14,300,000 for each non-undocumented American (meaning a real, legal American). But, it's really worse because that cost will fall on our children and grand children. And the $14,300,000 is in today/constant dollars. What needs to be put into an ccount this afternoon. And that figure goes up by $800,000 each year.

The right to be...
From my most recent email from The Patriot Post:
"Here's my immigration 'compromise': We need to regularize the situation of the 298 million non-undocumented residents of the United States. Right now, we get a lousy deal compared with the 15 million fine upstanding members of the Undocumented American community. I think the 298 million of us in the overdocumented segment of the population should get the chance to be undocumented. You know when President Bush talks about all those undocumented people 'living in the shadows'? Doesn't that sound kinda nice? Living in the shadows, no government agencies harassing you for taxes and numbers and paperwork." —Mark Steyn
The greatest of all the human freedoms? The freedom to be left alone.From the Declaration of Independence: HE has erected a Multitude of new Offices, and sent hither Swarms of Officers to harrass our People, and eat out their Substance.
And I'll suggest again that the next time you are at a stoplight, look around and find one thing that is not taxed and/or regulated at some level of government, if not multiple levels of government. And realize again, the Cost of Government Day is in July. You work over half the year to pay for the total cost of government. And it's going to get worse. Much worse.

The beginning of wisdom...and illegals
There is an old proverb I once heard that I repeat often:"the beginning of wisdom is to call all things by their right names." That means good is good, evil is evil, right is right, wrong is wrong. In the Bible, the greatest admonition is "Woe". It basically means "No hope."
Isaiah 5:20 is a dire warning to those who don't call things by their right names. And this means the left.
The left is excellent at demonizing (to cause to appear wicked and/or evil in the eyes of others is the true meaning of the word). Everything that falls out of their mouths is about "rights". The word "responsibility" is never applied to them or the victims they make up and claim to champion. And this is never more true now. The cause du' jour? "Immigration Rights".
Well, you evil doers on the left, we already have immigrants rights. What you want is rights for criminals. Come here legally, you have rights. Come here illegally...
And notice how in the latest batch of well timed spontaneous demonstrations there is an absence of Mexican flags? Seems the handlers of these criminals got smart and that showing the Mexican flag showed the true beliefs of these lawbreakers and their spokesmen. And what gets lost in all this is what about my rights as a citizen? Your rights as a citizen?

Tens of thousands of people, mostly Latinos, protested legislation that would make it a crime to help undocumented immigrants. - Uh, that's "illegal immigrants". And when you help a known criminal, that's called "aiding and abetting".
Some of the Wolverine workers were undocumented, Herrada and one of the workers said, and wanted to march in the Detroit rally to show their support for immigrant rights.- We already have immigrants rights. They're protesting to make criminals legal, just kill the law.
"It was not fair,'" said Mercedes, a 31-year-old Detroit woman who attended the rally and was fired. "We went to fight for our rights." Mercedes is undocumented and asked that her last name not be used.
"It was really unfair of a company to do that," said Edith Castillo, head of the Detroit-based Latin Americans for Social and Economic Development.-Yup-not obeying the law, not going through the process. It's all about "fairness". And what's really unfair is that these illegals are in jobs that Detroit's black LEGAL citizens could be doing. THAT'S what's unfair.And notice Mercedes is an ILLEGAL ans she whines about fairness. No gratitude that Wolverine Packing may have managers hauled off to jail for hiring her. "We went to fight for our rights!" she blubbers like a three year old. And what rights are those? Please be specific.
And not a whit of gratitude toward The Wolverine Packing Plant for giving them jobs. Not a whit of gratitude for being in a country that allows these protests. Why aren't they going back to Mexico if America is so unfair, so intolerant. What would happen if they protested the corruption of the Mexican government...in Mexico City?
And, for S&G's let's extend the rhetoric with a re-defining of terms:
Carjacking:unauthorized transit/transport requisition.
Rape:Non-qualified and perhaps impermissible sexual encounter.
Bank robbery: Undocumented non-customer withdrawal.
Armed bank robbery:Undocumented non-customer withdrawal with inappropriate duress to the employees
Assault:unwelcomed insensitive physical moment.
Just a few thoughts.

Illegals and history revisisted
Seems the more things change, the more they stay the same.
From nearly a year ago I was blogging on the Mexican border and illegal immigrants (that means they're criminals entering America) both here and here.
And here is the warning to the president from the same time.
GWB has had five years to address this problem. And plenty of Americans warning him.
And now we have the criminal coddlers on the left crying "fairness, rights, etc."
And GWB has no one but himself to blame for inaction and then wrong action.
This does not bode well for Republicans this fall.
The conservatives who believe in laws are becoming very, very discouraged. Nah, that's not accurate. They are becoming more and more discouraged.
And as Dick Nixon said "You can't win with the conservatives alone, but you can't win without them."

Vicious criminals protected here
There is a report in both the Pioneer Press and Prairie Pravda on an unprovoked vicious attack on an innocent storekeeper in Vadnais Heights. Read the differences in the descriptions of these two cowards:
Prairie Pravda-The attackers were two men described as about 5-foot-8 and in their late teens to mid-20s. They both wore dark clothing and dark baseball caps. One of them had close-cropped hair on the sides with a small ponytail in back. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the sheriff's office at 651-484-3366.
Pioneer Press-The attackers were described as Hispanic males, each about 5-feet-8 and in their late teens to mid-20s. The man with the knife was wearing a dark blue or long-sleeved hooded sweatshirt. During the melee, Al-Bosaad managed to pull out the hood's drawstring.
And, that it appears Prairie Pravda has an agenda favoring criminals (as it's coverage of the "spontaneous demonstrations for 'immigrants rights'") is there a link? Also remember, Prairie Pravda refused to give a full description of of the shooters in the Uptown murder of Mr. Zebuhr.
And as a final twist of irony, Prairie Pravda reports: "We want to catch them soon," Fletcher said. "The next time they do this, the likelihood of the victim surviving the attack is slim." and then provides the above less than full description.
Sins of omission are just as egregious and as vile as sins of commission.

There's always more of YOUR money available
Yup, always more of your money can be spent. And the governor believes that you haven't had enough of your money spent to prop up failed Minneapolis government policies. Not enough out of your pocket to the lefties of our largest city.
And what I find absolutely amazing is that in a budget of $1,240,000,000 the City of Minneapolis finds it impossible, absolutely impossible to find less than .2% (two tenths of one percent) to cut to come up with the $2,000,000 of your money the governor has so generously given R.T. Rybak.
Oh, and by the way, that $2,000,000 is only for the summer.
But not to worry. I have every confidence that you'll be able to earn more this year to have the governor take from you to give away to help those governed by the enlightened of Minneapolis.
So, be alert for all those overtime opportunities. After all, only you can help R.T. Rybak keep Minneapolis as safe as it's always been.

The Paradox of Tolerance
Less well known is the paradox of tolerance: Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them. – In this formulation, I do not imply, for instance, that we should always suppress the utterance of intolerant philosophies; as long as we can counter them by rational argument and keep them in check by public opinion, suppression would certainly be most unwise. The American Melting pot has been replaced by multiculturalism to disasterous results. Don't believe me, take a look at the marchers in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York. Hundreds of thousands of hypeneated Americans took to the streets of these American cities, flying the flag of a foreign government demanding that we reward their illegal behavior with citizenship - putting them ahead of the line of those who have worked hard to come here "the right way". Now I don't fully agree with my Republican counterparts on how to resolve this problem, but I do know that putting everyone who came here illegally 5 years ago, ahead of someone who did come here legally 10 years ago on the citizenship track is wrong! It is not fair to those who followed our laws.
Have we come to a point where we must tolerate all sorts of criminal/abhorrent behavior (rape and murder)? What comes next? Tolerating things like genital mutilation? When are we finally going to have the backbone to say "NO" to illegal behavior? When are we finally going to recognize that sometimes a little intolerance is the preferable alternative?

That there was a description of the assailants of Mr. Zebuhr possibly being Somali, or East Africans. You go on your lefty racist rant that "bad guys are bad guys whatever their color or caliber they carry." Not from your point Nicky. I noticed that you and your employer never even gave a partial, let alone full description of the assailants (though it was readily and almost immediately available from the police), other than to say "suspects" or "anyone with information on the robbery...". At least KSTP was trying to eliminate suspects. But not you guys. You excoriate KSTP and others by saying "Other TV stations followed Channel 5's lead. An entire ethnic group was under suspicion, without any description of what the killers looked like. " You guys never gave ANY description so therefore ALL "ethnic" groups were under suspicion. How many people got into cars that evening? How many "young men" were in Uptown that day? And the Stars official policy "At the Star Tribune, newsroom policy allows the race of suspects to be reported when race "can be used as part of larger description of a crime suspect," including "standard categories of identification such as age, build or weight, height and hair style or color, or includes some of those categories plus other very specific identifiers such as scars or clothing."
If police are looking for a 5-foot-10 black suspect about 20 years old weighing 180 pounds in a Vikings jacket with a tattoo on his face, shaved head and an apparent Somali accent, that should make it into the newspaper. But "police are looking for a Norwegian or possibly a Scandinavian"?" No Nick, you moron. But, you hypocritical twit, you didn't do that did you? That was the type of description on the police blotter that YOU refused to run. White, black, Hispanic, Asian. That helps. But, that's not what you said. What you said was "two youths","suspects", "anyone with information..." with no description other than "young males"? That's your version of Norwegian possibly Scandinavian. You're an idiot Nick. No, worse. By deliberately refusing to issue a full and complete description of the assailants , you let these thugs and murderers run lose. You did nothing to bring them to justice.You endangered many others by willfully refusing to help in their apprehension. And now that we know they were and are black, you also endangered other blacks by not giving that full description that would have aided in their apprehension, as most violence by blacks is against other blacks. In The Lady Logcician's post , she accurately points out that you and I aren't spending enough to help R.T. Rybak out of his problem in Murderapolis. Well, at least according to Mayor Rybak we aren't. Therefore, if you follow the looney left lack of logic, we are responsible for the death of Mr. Reitter. Time after time, when lefties don't get their way with more of your money, they always cut essential services and then plead it's because you or I are greedy in that we need to provide for our families first. R.T. decided to cut police, but not community development. Firemen laid off, but keep the Neighborhood Revitalization Project (which the Murderapolis whiners say is aimed at reducing crime.[insert uproarious laughing here]). DFL Rep. Ellison says "We need a partner in public safety, not a finger-pointer," and the apparent irony this statement of his and his fellow lefties are pointing fingers is lost on him. And this statement would seem to imply "We're idiots and can't even provide the basics of government to our citizens. HELP!!!!!"
This style of government also happens when the locals turn down a school bond issue. The very first thing that gets cut: buses. Put the parents in a bind immediately. Then cut after school activities at the same time so little Taylor and Nathan are in need of being picked up at 3:00 p.m.

Governor Pawlenty announced yesterday that he was getting "involved" in trying to resolve the growing crime issue in Minneapolis.
Mayor Ryback (in televised comments) said that the "most responsible" thing that the Governor could do was to restore the Local Government Aid money that was cut by the state in the last budget. Then, he said, we can hire more cops. This from the man who two weeks ago (after the senseless murder of Michael Zebuhr) said that more cops on the street was not the solution - but more on that later. I would like to know WHY the City of Minneapolis is not funding essential solutions (like police) in it's regular budget! With a $1.24 billion budget, why aren't there more cops on the street? Why are things like Neighborhood Revitalization Programs funded out of the General Budget instead of police protection? Why is Community Planning getting twice as many budget dollars as the police department? Community Planning and NRP should be what is funded out of the LGA dollars, not the police department!
The Star Tribune opines today that the problem is that people don't feel safe downtown. Here is a tip for the denizens of the Ivory Tower on Portland Avenue....people don't feel safe downtown because they AREN'T safe downtown! Yes getting rid of the "fear and intimidation" subculture that roams the streets of Minneapolis at night will make things safer in the area, but what is going to take care of that is MORE COPS ON THE STREET! If the cops are around, these kids are not going to be as quick to start fights with their rival gangs!
UPDATE AND BUMP: MDE points out to us that while crying poor, the City of Minneapolis managed to find $1.7 million for a "green" garden on the roof of City Hall! Now it may be (as some claim) that the roof would need to be repaired anyway, but it seems to me that roof repair would be a much better use of LGA funds - as opposed to paying police officers salaries. But that's just me.

Giving credit where credit is due
Nick Coleman is every MOB bloggers favorite media whipping boy - and with good reason. While he can write a very moving story, his stories tend to lack a certain factual basis. Not so this story on the murder of Alan Reitter outside of Block E (the entertainment heart of the city) in Downtown Minneapolis (H/T Anti-Strib and Rambix). Nick eloquently pens the reactions of almost all Twin Cities residents to this heinous act of violence. I say almost all because Mayor Nero Ryback is still fiddling while his city burns. The Mayor's reaction to this was to say that this was not due to a lack of cops on the street, but to an overabundance of GUNS! I like this particular paragraph from the article:
"So we are told: Friday's shooting was "an aberration." (Would it be OK if it were routine?) That it was random. (Would we feel better if the killer had shot the guy he was trying to kill, instead of a bystander?) That the killer was "a deeply troubled person." (Mayor R.T. Rybak said that.)
Well, Your Honor: Duh."
Nick almost gets it. He calls for more cops....and less guns. Like I said, he ALMOST gets it. Maybe a few more legal permit holders carrying would make these thugs think twice before firing shots into a crowd of people!
Meanwhile the management of Block E has started playing opera music in an effort to chase away loiterers and panhandlers!
On the other side of the river, St Paul Pioneer Press columnist Joe Soucheray had this to say about the crime wave in Minneapolis:
"Don't worry, Alan, they are on it, flipping open their cell phones to discuss new camera locations, more cops and great new programs of deterrence, like, well, opera music.
Believe me, they want this solved. They want this terrible problem to go away. They would much sooner concentrate on the important things, like bike paths."
And while Nero fiddles and dreams of bike paths and diversity, the citizens are looking for leadership:
"It no longer is a problem for just the city; it's a problem for anyone visiting the city. "Read one letter to the Star Tribune.
"I have a solution to help curb the crime in Minneapolis' Uptown and downtown neighborhoods. It's called the "draft." Read another.
"Time to regain control -The latest tragedies are part of a crime epidemic that has gripped our city for well over a year, yet the most action we've seen from the mayor is to caution us against leading "high-risk lifestyles." The Uptown murder happened just blocks south of my home on Girard Avenue to a person doing what I do nearly every day, walking with friends. The Block E murder was just steps from where I board the bus each morning. Are these two things now considered "high risk?" Read a third.
"So Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak says that, so long as there are too many guns on the street, hiring 1,000 more police officers is not going to make any difference in combatting crime.
Here is how Minneapolis can solve the gun violence:
• Hire at least 500 more police officers.
• Establish a zero-tolerance policy on crime.
• Persuade more law-abiding citizens to obtain handgun carry permits.
• Enforce existing gun laws as written.
• Persuade the court system to aggressively prosecute criminals.
Then, and only then, will you see the crime rate drop dramatically in Minneapolis. " Read this one from one of our fine service men in Iraq!
Speaking of prosecuting criminals...the shooter had been through the system before. Big surprise there. It is only NOW that the Hennepin County Prosecutor's office (Amy Klobuchar candidate for US Senate) has decided to do something about it and actually charge him with a crime! What took you so long Ms. Klobuchar?????
Lastly, this bit of irony....
"The April 4 Star Tribune headline should have read "Block E is safe, at least from secondhand smoke." That would have been more accurate."
Yes - Nero would have you believe that a burning Rome is safe, but only if your concern is second hand smoke. However, if you are concerned about mugging, murder and mayhem then you are best to stay out of Murderapolis!

You are NOT to be trusted!
In a political process precisely reminiscent of the fight over the Minnesota Personal Protection Act, the Minnesota Senate Judiciary Committee rejected the Same Sex Marriage Amendment. This is EXACTLY the same procedure whereby the Senate denied the Senate at large to vote on the Personal Protection Act. For years. Because the Metrocrats (see below) knew it would pass if it ever hit the Senate floor for an up or down vote.
Now, there are differences. If I have to go to the government and ask for permission to protect myself and have to be granted that permission, I don't have a right. I have a government granted privilege.
But, again, this is an example of the Metrocrats (the long in the tooth Minneapolis/St.Paul Senators) who ALWAYS get elected by the radicals in the inner city and therefore chair the committees and block legislation again and again.
Proving once again, you are not to be trusted. That's why we have the Metrocrats and lefties.
